What’s next? Tackle another project or light a candle?
This month the conversation in Tiara is about Well-Being. This includes taking care of yourself, making yourself a priority, and nourishing yourself. Sounds good, right? Surprisingly, this is more challenging that it seems.
Here’s what I know about myself…when my schedule gets busy, I feel overwhelmed or I’m rushing from one thing to the next, the first thing to go are my nourishing practices, the things I do to take care of myself. Why? Because taking care of myself takes precious time. When I’m pressured, with lots going on, I prioritize my well-being at the bottom of the list.
I know that feeling good actually helps me to be effective. When I pause and remember this, then I can take a few minutes to engage in a nourishing practice that will renew my energy, shift my focus and leave me feeling good.
I’ve started a list of 5 minute nourishing practices guaranteed to enhance my mood and energize me. Here’s my list:
- Go for a walk in my yard
- Listen to inspiring music
- Get a cup of tea
- Do heart breathing
- Dance to upbeat music
- Google “babies laughing” and watch a short video of a laughing baby
- Get up and move or stretch
- Lie down and shut my eyes
- Eat a piece of fruit, savoring each bite
- Listen to a short visualization
- Light a candle, watch it glow and enjoy the scent
Having a list to choose from works for me, different practices appeal at different times. The key is to interrupt the rush, take 5 minutes and take care of my own well-being. When I nourish myself, life is more enjoyable.
What are your 5 minute nourishing practices? What difference does it make when you take time to nourish yourself? How does it feel to make yourself a priority?
