Getting unstuck …

What happens when you know you need to let go of something and you really want to move to a new thing but you feel stuck? To me it feels like the infamous flying through the air on a trapeze which requires letting go of the bar you are swinging on before you can fully reach for the new bar swinging towards your grasp. And for a split second – you are really flying and not connected to anything.

For me it was all wrapped up in two words “empty nester” and the funny thing was that it wasn’t about the empty nest at all. It was the emotional surge of not being clear about what I wanted to create for the next part of my life and knowing that the part that was completing had been VERY clear – and it was honorable and valuable too. So now I was about to enter into an entirely new dialog about me, what I wanted, what made sense for my life (and oh yeah, my husband’s too) and I was wrapped up in looking back and not forward. The years that had gone by, the good (and not so good) times, all the friends, family, colleagues and I realized I was placing more value and importance on the past than on what I was going to create for my future.

So, what got me ‘unstuck’ was getting clear about what mattered to me NOW – and how I wanted to experience this ‘empty nest’ as new found freedom. Now that is inspiring and totally moved me from being sad and stuck to can’t wait to see what the next chapter could look like — and I am even no longer trying to control what it could look like – I am embracing the fun and adventure of the unknown – like a surprise that I am waiting to open. So . . . where have you been stuck . . . where have you been looking to the past and not to a future that really excites and inspires you? What did it take for you to fly through the air and grasp the new trapeze bar coming your way?
